I’m running for RSF School Board now, in this very unprecedented and challenging time, because I believe I can make a difference. My wife and I have 5 children, and there is nothing more important than keeping everyone safe during this challenging time. My name is Brigadier General John Tree and I live with my family in Rancho Santa Fe, CA. We previously lived in Manhattan Beach near Los Angeles. Our two youngest children currently attend Roger Rowe (3rd grade and 6th grade). We love living in the Ranch, and specifically chose our home based on our strong desire to have our two young boys attend R. Roger Rowe schools.
If elected to the RSF School Board, my top three priorities are:
- Protect our children, teachers and staff during the Covid-19 Pandemic
- Continue the tradition of providing the best education possible for all of our students
- Champion strong governance from Board with full transparency to our community
I have served our country for over 30 years as an Air Force officer. I am still in the Air Force Reserves, and I currently serve as the Senior Reservist to the Air Force Chief of Staff at the Pentagon. This part-time position enables me to participate at the highest levels of leadership within the Air Force and still be an active member of our community.
I also have 8 years of experience serving on the Board of Directors of an $8 billion/year global retailer, the Army and Air Force Exchange Service (AAFES). I spent 4 years on the Audit committee and now 4 more on the Finance Committee. If elected, I will bring my board experience of governance, transparency, and holding the administration accountable with me to the R. Roger Rowe School Board.
I believe the school district needs to provide top quality education for all students, regardless of if they are attending in person or online. Every effort must be made to be inclusive and accommodate all children, during this Pandemic and beyond.
I am fiscally conservative and I believe the school district should continue its strong heritage of financial strength.
I started my civilian career (while still serving in the Air Force Reserve) as a marketing executive at Procter & Gamble and Kellogg’s. I’ve managed $400 million in annual P&L responsibility with broad portfolio management of leading brands such as Nutri-Grain, Rice Krispies Treats, and Special-K bars. In addition to executive roles in the Fortune 100 and startups, I have also served as a CEO for two different companies owned by private equity firms.
I have an MBA in Marketing from Chaminade University in Honolulu, and an MA in Economics from the University of Oklahoma. My undergraduate degree is from the U.S. Air Force Academy. I’m an Eagle Scout and my hobbies include home improvement projects, foreign languages and travel. I am also a PADI Divemaster.
