NEWS RELEASE

Richard Clotfelter, representing the Clotfelter Family, has announced the Clotfelter Family has sold their property at 6012 Paseo Delicias at the center of the Village in Rancho Santa Fe, California. The Clotfelters are one of the original families in Rancho Santa Fe who have continuously lived in “The Ranch”. Reg and Connie Clotfelter moved to Rancho Santa Fe in 1931 as Reg was hired by the Santa Fe Land Improvement Company to be their sales agent for their Rancho Santa Fe properties. Reg in late 1940 sold the La Morada guest house from the Santa Fe Land Improvement Company to the Richardson family of Chicago and the Ranch. Right after purchase, Reg helped create the new name– “The Inn”.   Reg managed The Inn from 1940 until the early 1980s when he sold The Inn to the Royce Family of Pasadena, California. Reg stayed on as a Director until the late 1980s. As the Santa Fe Land Improvement Company land was sold off in the mid-1940s Reg started his own real estate business and purchased from the Santa Fe Land Improvement Company the land on which, in the late 1940s, he built and occupied half of the street frontage of the building now being sold. Reg operated his real estate business until a few years before his death in 1998. Tom Clotfelter took over the real estate business in the early 1990s and his son Cutter Clotfelter has continued as a real estate broker working for Willis Allen Real Estate, an occupant of part of the building being sold.

Today, three generations of the Clotfelter family still live on the Ranch. Sue Winnett, Reg and Connie’s daughter, Kurt Clotfelter, owner of Clotfelter Construction and with an office in the building being sold, Derek Clotfelter, owner of Wine Storage Partners, and Cutter Clotfelter mentioned above, all live to this day in Rancho Santa Fe. With their families, the fourth generation, there are presently 14 Clotfelters living on the “Ranch” today. In addition, Chaco Clotfelter lives in Encinitas and has his own real estate business covering north San Diego County. The remaining Clotfelters are Sarah Clotfelter, who lives in Portland, OR, and Dick Clotfelter, brother of Tom and Sue and father of Sarah, Kurt, and Derek. Dick lives in Kirkland, WA, and Ketchum, ID.

With the family now into its fourth generation of ownership of the Paseo Delicias property and with family members starting to scatter throughout the United States, management of their heritage could become more difficult, thus it made sense to sell now while decision-making was easy as family members live near and have close relations with each other.

The Family is very happy to have a local buyer, that will carry on with this property into the future.
