Congratulations to the Roger Rowe middle school students, teachers and staff for moving up in rank to 19 out of 2,740 middle schools in California from number 68 in 2021.
In addition, the San Diego Union Tribune released an article today about the trends in the SBAC data and the impact of the pandemic on student learning. The article includes a complete list of all of the schools in San Diego County and how they fared on SBAC testing.
I know that there have been comparisons made between our District schools and neighboring schools, particularly with middle school SBAC scores. A recap of the scores for the San Dieguito middle schools and the Carlsbad middle schools compared to our scores is as follows:

|San Dieguito Middle Schools:|
|Carmel Valley Middle School||86||79|
|Diegueno Middle School||74||66|
|Earl Warren Middle School||78||73|

|Carlsbad Middle Schools:|
|Aviara Oaks Middle School||78||68|
|Calavera Hills Middle School||65||46|
|Valley Middle School||65||45|
R. Roger Rowe Elementary School scores are reported as 90% Proficient/Advanced in English Language Arts (a 1% decrease from the 18-19 school year) and 89% Proficient/Advanced in mathematics (a 3% increase from the 2018-19 school year).
We are very proud of our accomplishments and know that they can be attributed to:
- Our hard work to reopen schools in 20-21,
- COVID testing and protocols put in place to keep students in school through the second year of COVID illnesses and modified quarantines,
- new curriculum in key areas,
- and professional development work to continually improve instruction in the classrooms.
