SDGE has been replacing the old wooden “telephone” poles with new metal poles throughout RSF recently. SDGE is doing this to mitigate fire danger; the new metal poles won’t catch fire. But they sure are ugly.
FYI. You can request (or maybe the RSF Assoc should) SDGE to alter the appearance of the poles by applying an acid-based chemical to the pole. This chemical will remove the galvanized coating on the pole and allow the pole to naturally patina over time. The pole surface will take on a rust-colored appearance which will be much more pleasing to the eye than the shiny silver metal finish they currently have. This rustic patina will have no effect on the pole strength; it is an aesthetic change only.
Patinaed poles will blend in and look much better than the silver poles.
It would be great if the Assoc would spearhead this.
