Water News…from the desk ofMarlene King,SFID Dir., Div. 3

SFID Proposed Rate Increases:  Thursday, January 16th at 8:30 am, is the rate increase Public Hearing.  Your constitutional right to protest proposed increases – the Prop. 218 Notice – must be in the hands of SFID staff by Wednesday, January 15th, unless you attend the Jan. 16th hearing and turn protest form in person at the Hearing.

Top Reason to return Prop. 218 Protest form

Proposed rates have added a Tier 5 @ 6.42/hcf, an increase of $1.10/hcf over Tier 4 cost.  The actual cost of water/hcf for Tiers 3-5 is around $3.39/hcf.  The remainder of costs go to paying SFID overhead; in addition to the overhead costs you already are charged for Tiers 1-4 and your fixed meter charges.

The proposed adding of a 5th Tier allocates additional overhead costs for Single Family Residence (SFR) customers as follows:  Tier 5 bills from ¾” SFR meters contribute an additional 10% to overhead; Tier 5 bills from 1” SFR meters contribute an additional 32% to overhead; Tier 5 bills from 1 ½” SFR meters contribute an additional 30% to overhead; and Tier 5 bills from 2” SFR meters contribute an additional 21% to overhead.

Does this seem equitable to you?  This is a primary reason why I will not be casting my vote to approve the proposed rate structure.  Feel free to call or email me if you have any questions or comments:  marleneliza@cox.net; (858) 759-1306.
